This week I've been at a customer site in New York City. 620 8th Ave, to be precise.

Their elevators have no buttons inside them other than door open, door close, and emergency bell.

You pick the floor you want ouside the elevator, and it tells you which one to take.

It's certainly a different approach to elevator riding.

I've been back in the state for a week. Yesterday, there was a huge announcement that my employer (Opsware - NASDAQ: OPSW) is going to be acquired by HP. Yes, *that* HP.

I've decided to be ambivalent unless given a reason to not like it.

No more traveling on the horizon, at least for a couple weeks.

working from Sunnyvale for 2 weeks was fun

San Francisco is very interesting city - and Allegria's (Spanish tapas bar on Lombard) is awesome... so is House of Prime Rib on Van Ness

Monterey is nice.. but kinda boring - even on the 4th of July

And not just because the A/C works, or because they pay me to do something I find [overall] intensely interesting. Work is cool because we have several offices around the country and world.

Because of this, so long as I warn my Team Lead, I can take a trip to any of those locations and work from that office.

I'm planning to be in CA for a couple weeks at the end of June into July. And because I can work out of the Sunnyvale office, I don't have to take time off from work to do it.

Yay for companies that just want their employees to be productive, and doesn't get too hung up over where they are productive.

hoses and head gaskets

So, there I was, cruising down 55 Wednesday on my way to work. And the car shut off. Yep: off. In traffic, at close to 55 mph. That was fun.

Turns out, the heater hoses were all perforated (planned on getting the slow leak fixed this weekend). Oh, and there's no compression on cylinder 4, so either the head's cracked, or the head gasket is shot, or any of a number of other, costly, issues. It's a 1990 Protege, and I'm not spending $1100+ to fix it.

So, I need to get a junk yard to come pick it up Monday morning.

Woot.
